We Help Aussie Players Find Casinos They Can Trust

austakes.com is a small team of gambling industry researchers and writers based in Australia. We test casinos ourselves, write what we actually find, and tell you clearly when something is an affiliate link.

Our story

Why We Built This Site

It started with a bad experience. One of our founders deposited at a casino they'd found through a review site, only to discover the "review" was little more than reworded marketing copy. The bonus terms were misleading. The withdrawal took eleven days. None of that was mentioned in the review.

That frustration became the foundation of austakes.com. We wanted to build something that actually helped players — not just something that ranked well in Google and sent clicks to the highest bidder.

We focus specifically on the Australian market because that's where we live and where we understand the landscape — the payment processors that actually work here, the games Aussies enjoy, and the legal questions that come up regularly.

We're not a massive media company. We're three people who care about doing this properly. That means slower output and less content — but everything we publish has been checked, tested, and written by someone who actually knows what they're talking about.

What we stand for

Our Editorial Values

Independence

We don't take money to change our ratings. A casino earns its score through research, not a sponsorship cheque.

Transparency

Every affiliate link on this site is disclosed. We tell you exactly how we make money and why that doesn't affect what we write.

Up to date

Casino offers change constantly. We check bonus details, terms, and platform changes on a rolling basis so you don't have to.

Player-first

We write for the person making a decision, not for the algorithm. Plain language, real answers, no puff pieces.

Our process

How We Test a Casino

01
We register a real account

Every casino we review gets a genuine sign-up from one of our team. We go through the same process any new player would — including identity verification.

02
We make a real deposit

We deposit our own money and test the payment system. We check processing times, fee structures, and whether the minimum amounts are realistic for most players.

03
We play the games

We test a cross-section of the game library — popular pokies, live tables, and crash games. We look at load times, mobile performance, and whether the RTP information is accessible.

04
We attempt a withdrawal

This is where casinos can fall short. We test the withdrawal process end to end, including any document requests and how long the money actually takes to arrive.

05
We read the fine print

Bonus wagering requirements, self-exclusion policies, responsible gambling tools — we read the terms so you don't have to wade through 6,000 words of legalese to find the catch.

06
We write it up honestly

If something is good, we say so. If something is disappointing or complicated, that goes in the review too. Our credibility depends on being straight with you.

Money stuff

How We Make Money

Some links on this site are affiliate links. When you click through and sign up or deposit at a casino, we may earn a commission from the casino operator. This commission comes from their marketing budget — it doesn't add anything to your cost, and it has no effect on the bonus or terms you receive.

Affiliate income keeps the lights on. But it doesn't change what we write. We've turned down paid placement requests from casinos. We've published negative assessments of platforms we're technically partners with. If we couldn't do that, this site wouldn't be worth reading.

All affiliate links are clearly labelled or disclosed on relevant pages. If you ever have a question about our relationship with a specific casino, just ask.
